Earth Day was started on April 22, 1970 by people wanting to validate the importance of the environment and set aside a day to take action for the future.
In Abaco, area schools participate in forum creating projects around the annual theme. This year's theme was "Marine Resources". The theme for 2009 is “Sustainable Agriculture”
