FRIENDS Educational Supported Activities 2008 | ||
Friends of the Environment is pleased to announce that we are offering for a third year two scholarships - one to an Abaco student to attend the 2007 Summer Earthwatch Expedition in Sandy Point and one for an Abaco teacher to attend the Island School Teacher's Conference at Cape Eleuthera. | ||||
This Expedition will be a 10 day experience and will be coordinated through The Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organization with specific dates to be set in July or August. Applications are open to all students who have completed grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 in an Abaco School this year. Students need to know how to swim and should feel comfortable on the water and be willing to help out with all aspects of field research. FRIENDS will cover all costs associated with the expedition for the awardee. Student and his/her parents will be responsible for all personal expenses.

This workshop will be a 7 day experience from August 5-12, 2007 and will be coordinated through The Island School at Cape Eleuthera, south of Rock Sound. Applications are open to all teachers who currently live and teach full time in Abaco. FRIENDS will cover the cost of tuition, room and board and up to $300.00 for travel expenses. On Tuesday May 15, Friends of the Environment presented the annual student summer scholarship award to Mr. Alex Forbes, a grade twelve student of St. Francis de Sales. The scholarship gives an opportunity for one student who has completed grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 in an Abaco school this year to apply. The student will participate in a 10-day expedition coordinated by Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organization in Sandy Point, Abaco learning about the marine environment and the animals that inhabit it. This year the Rotary Club of Abaco sponsored the scholarship. | ||
