Recycling Efforts In Abaco

Recycling efforts in Abaco started with the recycling of aluminum cans in 2006 and is growing by leaps and bounds. With the combined efforts of Friends of the Environment and Bahamas Tourism and area businesses, Bernadette Hall and her committee have helped make what is and can be recycled in Abaco, a reality.

On March 1, 2007, Paul Mills took over the business of the collection of aluminum cans from Friends of the Environment and provided a space on his lot for the storage of these collected cans until they could be shipped to Caribbean Recycling. it was at this point, Friends of the Environment's position in the recycling efforts became only to assist with generating more volume and by implementing more locations and to assist with shipping arrangements.

Mr. Mills and Caribbean Recycling have since made arrangements to establish a small recycling operation here on Abaco.
