Sea Parks of Abaco

Abaco's Sea Parks are National Parks that were established by the Bahamas National Trust (BNT). The primary function of the Bahamas National Trust is to build and manage national parks and protected areas in the Bahamas. These areas are strictly no take areas- (NOTHING may be removed for within these park boundaries).

Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park is home to Sandy Cay reef. Encompassing 2,100 acres, the Pelican land and Sea Park is the sister park to the Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park which was the first marine fishery reserve in the Caribbean. Sandy Cay contains beautiful underwater caves, extensive coral reefs and beautiful terrestrial plants and animal life.

Walker's Cay National Park was established in 2002. It comprises of 3,840 acres and is located on the northern most island of the Bahamas. This barrier reef has stunning coral formations and underwater cathedrals. Teeming with an endless variety of marine life and visibility of 100n feet, it is a must see for avid divers and snorkelers.

Other Areas for Snorkeling and Diving in Abaco

  • Fowl Cay Preserve- Ocean Barrier Reef
  • Johnny's Cay-Ocean Barrier Reef
  • Mermaid's Reef- Small Interior Reef

When visiting these areas, please use the mooring balls provided. Anchoring on the reef will damage or kill the coral. FRIENDS has placed these mooring at the parks for your use and provides for their maintenance.
